The Pregnant Corper & JSS Student Gossip: A Blogger's Costly Lie

It was just about after 3pm at work and my office colleagues were using their free-time to surf the web for information or updates pertaining to the industry or entertainment when a female colleague (who’s equally a Youth Corp member doing her Youth service in our company) gasped at her computer screen and called everybody’s attention to the crazy thing she had just come across.
It was a news item or rather a gossip bit on some blog that talked about a female Youth Corp member who had gotten pregnant for a JSS 1 or 2 boy in a secondary school. It originated as a tweet and became blog gossip.

My colleague's picture as placed  shamelessly on the blog
Whoever had put up this information had deemed it fit to include a photograph of a female Corp member and her male friend along with the article. The problem was that the lady in the picture was my colleague right here in the office gasping at her screen!

The link to this site was forwarded to her by a friend who saw it. Apparently people had begun to wonder whether she was actually the one referred to in the brief write up. She wasn’t the person being referred to in the write up but the placement of that pic inferred it.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing to illustrate your post with a Youth service picture for such a crazy news item provided you do it with some SENSE.

The blogger who stupidly put this up must have been ignorant and was just a troublemaker.
Out of curiosity, I decided to google the news headline and see how many bloggers had equally done stupidly. The result was a number of blogs that posted NYSC photos with SENSE.

The site 234today.com placed a group picture of NYSC members, Trennewsng.com and Olufamous.com put the picture of a female Youth Corp member with a friend but cut of the face area so you couldn’t say who it was. Informationng.com also did likewise. Naij.com put up the NYSC logo only…

All these blogs did it with SENSE unlike the blog Vibercent that put my colleague’s picture all out there wrongly. You need to see how guys in my office were discussing about how to sue for damages.

The captiom as captured on Vibercent's page after placing my colleague's
picture the secomnd time
This Vibercent blogger even went ahead to place the picture TWICE and scream out the headline in the popular way many rubbish blogs do it - JS1 STUDENT GIVES NYSC FEMALE CORPER BELLE. (SEE PHOTOS OOO) – He/She, whoever the ‘admin’ is had the guts to insinuate that the picture that was put up was the actual person in the tweet gossip.

What a load of crap!

Please beware of such bloggers…blacklist Viberscent.blogspot.com!

What if Nollywood Shot a Flick like this...

Pacific Rim is a Sci-fi flick that's has joined the throng of movies featuring battles between hi-tech giant robots and mysterious monsters attacking mankind. One thing you can bet on big budget Hollywood flicks like this is the fact that as you see it on the poster is as you see it in the movie...unlike Nollywood flicks which love to lie on the posters and show you something else in the movie.

What would a Naija version of this movie look like? Well, some creative dude has given us a feel of that.

LOL!

The title makes sense. Sounds like what a Nigerian government is capable of doing - wasting money on unnecessary ventures.

I'm sure if local film producers attempted shooting this, we'd end up with cheesy special effects that reminds one of that horrible sci-fi flick Ghanaians did some time back on YouTube. But seriously...who go attempt to shoot a movie like this when producers are looking for quick productions that will bring quick money?

Until some daring big gun with loads of cash decides to sponsor the shoot of a high-tech flick with mind blowing special efx, we just shouldn't go there.

And don't think its something we can't do here in Nigeria. We have geeks that are very capable of VFX that could stand well for interesting entertainment. Imagine if a producer was ready to shoot something like 'Elegushi Rim' and had somebody like Ficson productions to do all the Sci-fi efizzi. Just check out this short flick Ficson did...also on giant robots!

Yes...this is a Naija Sci-fi flick with cool VFX.

Download link - http://ficson.com/video.php

The video was actaully done on zero budget! Imagine what could happen if there was a good budget put down for this.It just takes a daring producer to start the trend. After all wasn't it some dudes that started the trends on movies that exploited relationships and extreme love themes?

I believe nothing is impossible to achieve in Nollywood now, with the awareness of new tech and stuff. Let's wait and see who blows the first horn on this. The movie Kajola, a commendable attempt didn't seem to do well in that department. Maybe soon a better option will spring up.

Let's Keep our fingers crossed for Nollywood!

Maheeda's Responses to Reprimanding Tweets: A Case of Guilty Conscience?

Sister Maheeda of the Lord?

By now its not news that Caroline Sam popularly known as 'Maheeda' has gotten weary of being born again and gone back to her old ways.

The evidence is rife all over the net - her sexy bikini pictures can be found across different social media. Recently, she upped the ante by uploading a personal shower-hour video where she stunned all with her naked display. Its like things are getting hot and moving to some dangerous max; what next will she attempt? A total nude shot? She looks capable of doing it, no doubt.

Still shots from her 15 second shower-hour video
So what happened? Why did she give up on being born again?

I remember way back last year when in an interview with PM News she had said, "I want use this medium to inform all my fans out there and those who love  me that I am now a changed person and no longer the old person I used to be. God has finally taken over my life and I will continue to sing his praise".
Then she had announced plans to switch to gospel genre full time. She even released two gospel tracks at the time.

Her case reminds me of Uche Ugbodo the Nollywood Actress who also claimed to be 'born again' but seemed to have gotten tired of it and gone back to the 'old life'.

The sad thing about backsliding or going back to one's old ways is that you end up worse than you were before. In Maheeda's case, it is damn obvious. From her tweets, she's made it clear where she stands.

A stronger pointer to the fact is her response to tweets from people who questioned her sudden change and backsliding. Such tweets enraged her and she resorted to insulting the senders. A particular tweet sent by @OriginalAyo seemed to have enraged her so much that she tweeted three different replies.

Was she reacting out of guilty conscience? Everything seems to be pointed at that. Even a supposed Muslim questioned her belief after sending the bathroom pictures and was simply called 'A fool'.

She tweeted about wanting and desiring to sleep with male celebrities like Flavour, Ice Prince, Banky W, Davido and wizkid (even those younger than her are not spared!). Then she said she would'nt mind having babies for Psquare, Tuface (as if he doesn't have enough already), Don Jazzy and Clarence Peters.

In an interview she gave way back as a 'born again Christian' she was quoted to have said; "Even after getting married I still have this urge of going out to meet a man. But I felt it should not be so. I’m trying to let people know there is a spirit behind prostitution  if not, why after getting married, I have everything, I live in Lekki, I’m driving a very big car and my husband gives me whatever I want, so why would I still feel like going into prostitution  There is a spirit behind it. I continued prostítútión even after getting married. The only thing that changed me was being born again and being delivered.”

Is the spirit of prostitution back? With all her wanting to 'X' every male celeb and fellow, I think it is...and its worse than before.

While surfing online about her, I came across blogs that carried the news and pictures of her shower-hour and was dsimayed to discover that they kept referring to her as 'Gospel Singer'. I don't think one can call her a gospel singer when she has only two gospel tracks to her credit...and also due to the fact that she recently released a track titled 'Superman' (which ain't gospel) from an uncoming project that's carries tracks with explicit lyrics.

Well...what can we say, like she insinuates in one of her tweets, she deliberately chose to go this way. And she lets us know that she hasn't even started.

What does that point to? I hope its not that she'll soon start featuring in porn; we already have the Cossys and Afrocandys to contend with.

Know the True Role Models by Their Tweets

I’ve always felt that looking for Celebrities that are true role models can be like looking for a needle in a Haystack. It’s not because they are rare, but rather because many bad role models are also masquerading as good role models and many of us know that they are just PR moves to paint them in a good name.

So how can we go about sifting the real good role models from the fake ones? I’ve come to discover that one of such ways of finding out is via a particular social media. If you think I’m talking about Facebook then you’ve got it wrong. I’m talking about Twitter!

Twitter as many of us all know is the official ‘amebo’ or ‘Olofofo’ of personal lives and happenstances. The good thing is that it’s the users that expose themselves, not some online paparazzi. We have seen the Twit fights, the scandals, the instant reports coming from personal encounters or instant coverage.
If you really want to know the mindset or personality of any celebrity, visiting their Twitter page and checking out their timeline and convos with their followers or friends can tell you a lot about them (that is if you are good at psychoanalyzing). Also you need to be mindful of fake twitter accounts parading as celebrities.
I’m careful about who I follow on Twitter. There are just too many accounts that are just pointless to follow. I keep following and unfollowing people as I further discover their true nature according to Twitter.

Foremost Nigerian Comedian Ali Baba GCFR (he really deserves that title!), one of Nigeria’s pioneers of standup comedy is somebody I wholesomely follow on Twitter.  This is one of the very few celebrities that actually stand out as a good role model.

I was going through my tweets last week when I came across this tweet from someone that used to be his follower.

I scrolled through the dude’s tweets and saw what picture Ali Baba was referring to. It was this picture of a man performing oral sex on a woman.

Sorry, I had to censor the pic.

You can’t say you want to follow a responsible minded celebrity when you tweet porn photos without batting an eye.
While other celebrities may joke about it, be indifferent or retweet it like one other shameless comedian I’ve seen do it a number of times on twitter. Or like Cossy Orjiakor who seems to endorse ‘aristo-ism’ by retweeting a tweet that labeled her as Queen of the wayward girls.

Ali Baba chose to make a point about where his opinion stood on such things.  So if your mind is full of sh*t (excuse my French), don’t even expect a follow back from him.

Now that’s a celebrity worth following; a true role model.

RE: Aluu Murders - A Glimpse of Things to Come? [Photo]

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This picture of one of the Uniport students holding up a placard during the protest on the Aluu Murders says quite a lot and casts a shadow of likely retribution on the community.

The Lady That Rocks The Truth - Stella Damasus

You’ll never hear me say I’m a fan of some celebrity or well known personality. This is simply because I see them as human beings and not some deity that some obsessed fans unknowingly end up turning them into. Aside that, I do admire celebrities that are original, real and true to themselves; because I believe this is something that makes them stand out in their own unique and positive way.

For a long time, I’ve found it hard to really admire Nollywood stars simply because the only thing that one seemed to know them for was just gracing our screens with fabulous or mediocre performances for movies with awkward plots and cliché storylines.

So you can imagine how stunned I was when I came to discover that Stella Damasus actually writes; and that she features her write-ups in some newspapers, on-line magazines and journals. It wasn’t only the fact that she wrote that impressed me but the depth of her writings.

From my own experience and training as a writer, I know a writer’s nature from the way they write. My analysis of Stella Damasus’ writings revealed that she is a woman of depth; a thinker who took time to dissect the status quo and paint reality in its true color. This is something you don’t come across easily in Nollywood stars, at least from all I’ve come across so far.

After reading one of Stella’s articles where she critically analyzed the wanton deception and backwardness of red carpet events and of a particular movie premiere, my curiosity was ignited and I wanted to know more about this pretty actress and mother of two.

For somebody who writes like that, I was sure she’d have a blog.

I was right. She had one.

And just as I guessed, she had a recent update.

This says a lot about the writer in her; she always has the drive to write something. Also she had inspiring write-ups lined up on her blog. In her personal experiences she comes across openly and with simplicity. You get positively counseled or provoked into thinking by her articles.

I didn’t stop there. I went looking for her twitter page.

Most times when you come across the twitter pages of celebrities, you see titles, awards and achievements displayed on their profile but all you see on Stella’s twitter page is just her name, her twitter handle, the link to her blog, a few digits and the slogan ‘God Pikin’.  That’s a profile that’s plain humble and not screaming out for recognition.

All I found from my search was a humble, simple, honest and down to earth woman who did not let the fame get into her head and thwart her perspective to life.

In a society where values are being corrupted everyday on screen by so-called celebrities and there is scarcity of role models for our kids, I can whole heartedly say that Stella Damasus is a breath of fresh air.
